I am obsessed over every element of John's case. I truly and utterly regret not following my dream of being a lawyer.
During visit last week I asked John some questions to see if he remembered anything regarding the incident. I think the PTSD makes him block a majority of it out. He doesn't remember much but was able to tell me when he thinks he fired his weapon. As he explained it to me, he started to share more of what he saw while sitting in the cruiser.
Some of the stuff he said didn't sit right with me, so when I got home, I sat at my desk and started to research. I went over every news article, video, and picture, and there it was. Plain as day.
For 16 months I've been trying to figure out how the shot didn't go straight through, especially at the angel the video shows. Trajectory plays a huge role in determining where the shot hit, yet we didn't bother to consult an expert. Personally, I think some people (not John or I) were more concerned about making a show out of it.
I, unfortunately, gave control of John's case to people we trusted. Attorney's we thought had John's best interest at heart. How blinded we were. If you ever find yourself in legal trouble, I beg you to be as involved as you possibly can with your case. Ask questions, do the investigating yourself. Don't trust ANYONE to fight for your life, but you!
